Another week in which I am struggling with completing my final product. I came into this knowing it would be difficult, however, it is even more stressful knowing that the deadline is eighteen days away. I have finally completed my claims and my illustrations. The next step is to finish up my written description which will not be an easy task. I started by creating the title of the shoe. I learned from my mentor that I need to be as concise as possible so I named it “a shoe for charging mobile devices.” The next step was to detail out the technical field and background the invention pertains to. These two steps were quite simple as the technical field would relate to wearable technology and the background is essentially a brief description of the problem the inventor was attempting to solve. Thus far, I feel pretty successful as I was able to complete these steps promptly and use legal terms to help provide a clear view of what the invention is. The final thing I worked on this week was the summary of the invention which my mentor and I broke up into three paragraphs. The context of the problem, the actual problem, and how the invention solves the problem. At first, this portion was hard to write as I was unable to develop paragraphs. I felt that everything I said addressed what was necessary, but I was having trouble with expanding the problem into a paragraph. My mentor helped me solve this problem by having a meeting with me and taught me how to effectively expand on the material. I learned that an effective way of expanding is by providing examples to help the reader understand. I used an example of a military servicemember that is deployed and unable to charge his/her device. Thankfully, after our meeting, I was able to successfully create the summary of the invention with three paragraphs that detailed the problem and how the invention solved it. A few questions that have arisen throughout this week: What are the next steps into this patent application? How will I create the written description and tag the illustrations with it? For next week, I plan on having a meeting with my mentor and discussing future steps into the written description. I hope to have the written description completed by the 10th. I will need to learn about more technical terms to use in the written description and most importantly how to write one that expands on every minute detail of the invention.
