This week was an extremely stressful and relieving week. I have successfully created and completed my patent application. My patent application includes the claims, written description, and three illustrations. Many challenges were posed by my product such as confusion about how to expand one component into a paragraph, how to detail a unique aspect in one sentence, and how to create illustrations that match my claims. I solved all of these problems through perseverance and dedication. I used organizations such as IPWatchdog and the World Intellectual Property Organization to aid me in understanding how to draft a patent. I could not have completed this product without the help of my mentor. He guided me through the entire process and I am extremely grateful for his assistance. I learned a lot about the properties included in each section. In order to be a great patent attorney, an individual must be susceptible to change. There is a unique writing style associated with drafting that may seem repetitive or excessive, but it is necessary. I acquired a vast amount of knowledge about the daily jobs an attorney handles and I thank the Independent Study & Mentorship program for allowing me to experience this special opportunity. I still have a few questions that have not been answered throughout my learning: Will patent litigation be my strong suit? Would I be better off in the litigation field or behind the work drafting? I hope to have these questions answered next year as I plan on diving into the field of litigation. Moving forward, I need to start preparing my final product video next week. I am excited to continue my learning in this program through ISM 2 and further my learning into the amazing field of justice. Thank you.
