The meeting with the attorney went great and I learned so many different things. We covered many aspects of my ISM journey as well as Intellectual Property. I learned that the practice side of IP law is very different from the litigation I side. I asked her “what major would benefit me the most in college and set me up for law?” I was shocked to hear her say that I could major in anything I wanted. She provided me the example of people in law school with opera majors. She told me that law school cares about my GPA and my LSAT score. With this knowledge, I realized that I need to research more into the practice of IP law which deals with engineering and the actual court processes. This information will help me narrow down on which side I would like to continue in my career path. How does an attorney specialize in litigation and how does it differ with the practice? She also evaluated my Original Work and gave me great advice as to how I can go into detail with patent-eligibility specifically novelty. I need to work on reading the America Invents Act and the Manual of Patent Examining Procedure throughout next week because the attorney recommended that I read it. I have discovered that I need to learn more about the patent application process because I am unfamiliar with it. It is general knowledge that I should be an expert on in case anyone asks me a question. Furthermore, I also should look at a real patent and have a basic understanding of the structure. Google Patents is a great way for me to learn and explore real patents.
