This week was definitely the best so far. I went to the Dallas Bar Association’s Intellectual Property Law Section’s 25th Anniversary celebration at the Belo Mansion and it was an amazing experience. There were almost 80 Intellectual Property attorneys in attendance at this event and the aura was amazing. The person who invited me introduced me to many people including Evan Wallach: Justice of the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. As well as Steven Callahan: intellectual property attorney at Charhon Robson Callahan & Garza, a graduate of Harvard law school. Meeting people with such prestige was an honor and I got to apply my practice in networking for the first time and I did well. There were times where I was standing by myself not knowing who to talk to, but I realized that I was wasting the precious time I had. Therefore, I went to each lawyer I saw and started a conversation with them. It was difficult keeping a conversation with some, however, I dealt with it and continued asking questions. I learned how important the first impression is and that’s why I always had a firm handshake with a smile along with it. It was also impressive yet intimidating to me how a lot of lawyers went to top-notch schools such as Stanford or Yale. So I do have questions about the relationship between becoming a great lawyer and which law school you graduate from. Next week, I want to learn about patent cases now that I have enough knowledge of the rules of patent-eligibility. We also had a Business Symposium this week and it was a huge learning opportunity. I learned ways on how to improve my interview skills, improve my networking, and how I can steer my future into what I want. I also have to start thinking about my Original Work Proposal which is coming up very soon.
