Covid-19 has taken over the world. The virus has affected my entire life in a multitude of ways. However, I must push through and find different ways to attack problems. ISM is now on its mentorship phase and this virus has been a challenging obstacle. We are not allowed to meet with mentors because it isn’t safe. Luckily, we are still able to skype our mentors. I met with my mentor twice this week and we discussed the claims to the invention. There was a lot to learn and it was very challenging. The independent Claims were difficult because there were technical aspects that I was unaware of. Furthermore, my mentor told me to give it my best shot and that he would guide me in completing the claims. I successfully created the independent claims to my invention which discussed the piezoelectric disposted in the sole, the series circuit, the diode bridge, and the lithium-ion battery. The goal of these claims was to be broad and to draft the different building blocks into a new invention. This was very challenging because I had to define the different components into one functioning invention. I learned a lot about legal terms such as plurality, an apparatus comprising, wherein, etc. My mentor and I next went over the independent Claims that I drafted and revised them into the proper format. I have to say that the claims look good because they are concise and easy to understand. Also, I created my dependent Claims and have sent them to my mentor to review. A few questions have arisen in the creation of my patent application: How will I set up my hand-drawings? How do I create a dependent claim that discusses a specific size to a component? I have discovered that I still need to learn more about the different ways to draft claims such as a claim towards making something, using something, or further inventing something. I plan on completing my claims this week and getting started on the hand-drawings next week. I also need to start revising my dependent claims this week so I can move towards the next steps.
