This week was a lot more different than I had expected. I got started on my written descriptions for the figures I created for the invention. Figure one was difficult because I was having trouble understanding the concept of explaining every minute detail of a simple function. I found myself being extremely repetitive, but my mentor explained it to me as explaining the invention to my mom. I took his advice and wrote down paragraphs for each label in my figures through a less complicated text and then turned it into paragraphs with technical words. I learned a lot about how writing is in the patent field as it is very different than how I learn at school. Writing a patent is not about using fancy terms to make yourself sound knowledgable, but it is about being elaborate on the details so someone in the same industry as the invention can understand the invention. A few questions arose in the creation of my written descriptions: How do I explain the piezoelectric structure in technical terms? Can the actual inventor use my invention to file for a patent under his name? Moving onto my second figure, the written description for the sole of the shoe was extremely challenging. I was having trouble explaining the series circuit in relation to the diode bridge and the capacitor. I decided to look at a patent my mentor and I went through about a month ago to get a better understanding of how to explain the relationship. Luckily, I was able to get a clear view of how to explain the figure and completed that as well. Now I am waiting for revisions and edits on my figures which should be completed by the end of this week. I would consider myself successful this week as I was able to complete the first and second figure which is one of the most important parts of the invention. I need to begin my third figure and once that is complete, then I need to go through the entire product and make revisions/edits if necessary. I need to look into how the foam pieces were work alongside the piezoelectrics before I begin my third figure. I will contact the inventor to make sure everything in the invention seems correct. My third figure will require a lot of technical implications that my mentor will guide me through.
