Final Figure

My final figure was created this week and I am very relieved. This figure was about the piezoelectric structure. One thing that the inventor had to keep in mind is how he would create pressure within the sole of the shoe to generate electricity. He solved this problem by adding foam pieces around the piezoelectric electrodes to compress which would generate electrons. I learned a lot about the structure of the piezoelectric, however, one challenge I was having was describing the foam in itself and its location. I solved the description of the foam pieces by researching how foam is created and finding a generic description of it. I then moved on to the location of the foam pieces in which I looked up prior patents and learned that I could describe them by letters. Instead of labeling each one, I used a dash between how many they were to specify the foam pieces. The final part of the figure was to describe the plastic that is wrapped around the piezoelectric. The piezoelectric needs a cover to protect itself from water damage. I believe I accurately succeeded in this part as I found it a lot easier because of al the practice I have received. A few questions that have arisen while created my third figure: How many figures can one potentially have? What happens if the USPTO denies a figure? Moving forward, I need to review the patent with my mentor and ask the patent draftsmen to make changes to my second figure. I want to learn more about how to change the figure myself in case a minor adjustment needs to be made. I also want to learn more about patents that deal with chemical inventions are created.
