It feels like my ISM journey has officially started. I made more than 25 calls/emails to professionals in my field and scheduled 5 meetings. My peers are having great difficulty in planning meetings so I am proud of the amount I have scheduled so far. I also messaged a lot of attorneys on Linkedin and needless to say, I was left on seen almost every time. I had my first informational interview and it went really well. The attorney gave me a tour of his office as well as answered all of my questions in great depth. He asked me which law school I would like to attend. After seeing the confusion, he proposed Harvard. I told him that I didn't feel like Harvard was the best place for me but he told me “to dream big.” I have heard that phrase a lot however it meant a lot coming from him. He showed me multiple databases to help me find articles on patents, trademarks, etc. I learned a lot about what it means to be a lawyer and how much it can change one persons life. Being a lawyer is all about helping people and you need to play the game by the rules. Maintaining a good relationship with judges also helps your credibility a lot during cases. I do still have a lot of questions about how to approach cases in litigation or trademarks however, I am sure I will get those answered in future meetings. My second meeting didn’t go as planned as the lawyer didn’t show up and forgot about the meeting. I was very confused and scared but I left him a voicemail. Fortunately, we got into contact and he was so busy that it slipped out of his mind. As a professional with so much work already piled up it is very easy to forget a simple meeting with a high schooler so I definitely understand. I am planning to call him back and schedule another meeting with him as soon as possible. I have 2 meetings next week so I need to revise my questions and ask my remaining questions. I also have more questions pertaining to how a lawyer opens up their own practice/firm and would like to learn more about that. This journey is quite an adventure!
